A climber is not a drop. It sits flat on the lobe and runs upward along the ear line, so the stones stay against the ear instead of swinging below it. Within our earrings range, this is the design for a wearer who wants visible carat weight without anything hanging.

Design Details

How Does the Trio Sit on the Ear?

The three heads are bridged by an open gallery, so the piece is rigid and holds the angle it was set at rather than collapsing into a straight line. The post comes off the middle of the run, not off the end, which balances the weight across all three stones and stops the climber tipping forward through the day. The pear is set point up at the top, so the taper follows the curve of the ear rather than cutting across it.

At 11.7 mm by 10.6 mm the run covers most of the lobe without reaching the cartilage, so it needs only one standard piercing. The screw back post is the reason this design can carry 1 5/8 carats safely: a friction back on this much weight works loose, a threaded post does not. The pair can be worn together, or a single climber can sit in a second hole beside a stud.

Materials & Craft

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The mounts are solid 14K gold, shown here in white, yellow, and rose. The six stones are lab grown diamonds, 1 5/8 carats in total across the pair. These are accent stones set in a trio rather than a single graded centre, so they are covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by an individual stone report.

  • ◆ Each of the six stones sits in its own four prong head, and the heads are bridged so the three settings load as one piece instead of three separate mounts on a thin bar
  • ◆ The gallery is left open underneath every stone, which lets light reach the pavilions instead of trapping it against a solid back plate
  • ◆ The pear head is cut with a V prong at the point, which is the only way to protect the thinnest part of a pear from chipping against clothing
  • ◆ The two earrings are matched as a pair for stone size, colour, and cut before the screw back posts are fitted and the threads are tested

What Can Be Specified Before Production?

These ear climber earrings are built to order. The configuration shown is a starting point, not a fixed SKU. The following options can be specified before production starts.

  • ◆ Total carat weight: 1 5/8 ct across the pair as shown, with lighter and heavier trios built to the same layout
  • ◆ Gold karat: 14K as shown, or 18K
  • ◆ Gold color: white as shown, with yellow and rose also produced
  • ◆ White gold finish: rhodium plated over solid white gold; the plating wears gradually with friction, fastest on rings, and can be re-plated
  • ◆ Diamond shapes: one pear and two rounds as shown, or an all round run
  • ◆ Closure: screw back as shown, with a push back post for lighter carat weights
  • ◆ Quantity: a matched pair, or a single climber for a second piercing
  • ◆ Stone type: lab grown diamond as standard, with natural diamond available on request
  • ◆ Diamond grade: F color and VS clarity at minimum, with Excellent cut on the round stones, as our lab grown standard; D color and VVS clarity available on request
