This diamond ear cuff is an open C shaped cuff in solid 14K white gold that slides onto the ear without a piercing. Its front is lined with 16 round lab grown diamonds, each held in its own hexagonal double prong setting, the honeycomb pattern. 1/6 carat, 12 mm tall and 2.1 mm wide.

A cuff is the easiest way to add a line of diamonds to the ear without committing to a new piercing, and it can move between the lobe, the conch, and the helix as you like. Among our gold earrings, it is the piece that works as an addition rather than a replacement.

Why a Honeycomb Setting on a Cuff This Narrow?

At 2.1 mm wide, the cuff has room for one line of small stones and very little gold. Each diamond sits in a six sided frame with two prongs, and the frames are joined point to point, so from the front the line reads as a row of little hexagons, each with a diamond in it. The gold outlines add a pattern that plain prongs would not, and the hexagons protect the girdle of every stone on a piece that gets pushed on and off the ear.

The cuff is an open C that grips the cartilage by gentle pressure. It is formed so it can be squeezed very slightly to tighten, then left alone: gold that is bent back and forth again and again weakens, so the fit is set once and the cuff holds it. Worn singly it adds one bright line; two or three worn together build a stack without extra holes.

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The cuff and its settings are solid 14K white gold with a rhodium finish. The 16 stones are round lab grown diamonds, 1/6 carat together. At this size no stone is individually graded, so the cuff is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds.

• ◆ Each stone is held by two prongs rising from opposite corners of its frame, which keeps the front of the stone open to light
• ◆ The 16 stones are matched for size and color, because a single straight line shows any difference immediately
• ◆ The inside of the cuff is polished smooth and its ends are rounded, so nothing presses into the cartilage, and the opening is checked for a secure but comfortable grip
