What Is a Crossover Ring?

This diamond crossover ring is open rather than closed. Two tapered arms sweep past each other across the top of the finger and stop short, leaving a visible gap between the tips. 21 round lab grown diamonds run along the upper half of each arm, 1/4 carat in total, on a band 1.60 mm at its widest.

It reads as two rings from the front and wears as one, which is why it works on a finger that already carries a plain band. Within our rings range, this is the open one, built to give a stack a second line without adding a second ring.

Design Details

How Does an Open Ring Stay in Place?

The gap is at the top, not the bottom. The shank behind the finger is a continuous closed band, and the opening sits where a solitaire head would normally be, so nothing about the fit is compromised. It is still a fixed size ring cut to your finger, not an adjustable one that springs open and loses its shape.

Each arm tapers as it travels, from 1.60 mm at the shoulder down to a rounded point, and the stones taper with it. The largest sit where the arm is thickest and the smallest close the tips. The two arms are also offset in height, so the upper one passes over the lower rather than butting against it. That offset is why the silhouette reads as movement instead of as a broken circle.

Materials & Craft

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The arms, the shank, and the prongs are solid 14K yellow gold. The 21 stones are lab grown diamonds, round brilliant cut, 1/4 carat in total, so each one sits near 1.4 mm. Stones at that scale are melee, set as accent stones rather than graded individually, and the ring is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by a report on each stone.

  • ◆ The stones step down in size along each arm, so every seat is cut to its own diameter rather than drilled to a single gauge
  • ◆ The prongs are shared between neighbours and raised out of the metal of the arm itself, which keeps the whole setting under a millimetre above the finger
  • ◆ Both arm tips are finished by hand after setting, because a machine polished point on a 1.60 mm arm rounds off the taper the design depends on
  • ◆ The inner shank is left plain and polished, which is the surface the engraving is cut into

What Can Be Specified Before Production?

This crossover ring is built to order. The configuration shown is a starting point, not a fixed SKU. The following options can be specified before production starts.

  • ◆ Ring size: cut to your size, half sizes included
  • ◆ Stone coverage: both arms set as shown, or one arm set and the other left plain gold
  • ◆ Carat weight: 1/4 ct across 21 stones as shown, with heavier stones set into wider arms
  • ◆ Gap width: the opening between the tips can be closed up or opened out
  • ◆ Gold karat: 14K as shown, or 18K
  • ◆ Gold color: yellow as shown, with white or rose on request
  • ◆ White gold finish: rhodium plated over solid white gold; the plating wears gradually with friction, fastest on rings, and can be re-plated
  • ◆ Inner engraving: names, initials, a date, or a short phrase cut inside the shank, in the font you choose, included at no charge. A 1.60 mm band takes a short inscription
  • ◆ Stone type: lab grown diamond as standard, with natural diamond available on request
  • ◆ Diamond grade: F color and VS clarity at minimum, with Excellent cut on the round stones, as our lab grown standard; D color and VVS clarity available on request
