The client ordered it as half of a matched pair, the other bangle carrying the letter A, so two brothers could each wear his own initial with the same monogram inside. Among our gold bracelets, it is the design that started as a client’s picture rather than from our own drawings.

Why Do Couples Wear Matching Initial Bangles?

A pair says something one piece cannot. Two people, two bangles, one gold: each carries a single letter on the outside and both letters joined on the inside. Apart, through a working day or a week of travel, the monogram inside keeps the other person on your wrist. Together, the two bangles read as a set.

This R was built that way from the start, as half of the brothers’ pair described above, with a line inside that ended with the word love. For a couple, nothing about the design needs to change.

The letters can be set two ways. Each person wears their own initial, R on one wrist and A on the other. Or the two of you swap, so each wears the partner’s letter and the initial you look at all day is never your own. A third option puts both letters on one bangle, alternating around the band.

What the letter stands for is your choice. R can be a name, the first letter of the street where you first lived together, or a child’s initial. Inside, we engrave the rest at no charge, in any font you send: a wedding date, the place you met, a line you wrote for each other.

The bangle opens on a hinge, closes with a screw lock, and sits close to the wrist, so it is a piece for every day rather than for occasions. Ordered together, both bangles come out of the same production run in the same 14K gold, so their color and polish match. As a wedding gift or as anniversary jewelry, the pair means both people open a box. It works the same way between brothers, between sisters, or between a parent and a child.

How Did a Client Image Become a Production Drawing?

The client arrived with a rendered image of the bangle they wanted, notes on size, gold, and closure, and a separate sheet showing the exact font for each position. An image shows the look but not the numbers a bangle needs: band width, wall thickness, the inner oval, where the hinge sits. Our designer built the CAD model from it at 4.8 mm wide with an inner oval of 53 by 63 mm, and spaced the roundels so none of them lands on the hinge or the opening.

The serif R for the roundels, the script for the inside line, and the joined AR monogram were each redrawn from the client’s images, because no font file we held matched them closely enough. The redrawn lettering went back to the client as an image to compare against the original before the model was finished.

Why Is the Finished Bangle Heavier Than the First Drawing?

The client first asked for a light bangle, and the first CAD was drawn at 1.7 mm thick, with an estimated weight of about 20 g in 14K. A cast band could have stayed near that weight, but not with the hinge and screw lock the client wanted. Those had to be machined, and the machined construction is heavier. We set out both options before production, and the client kept the screw lock and accepted the added weight and labor. The band went to 2.0 mm, estimated at about 24.5 g, and then to 2.2 mm for production. The finished R bangle weighs 23.51 g on our scale. A model weight runs above the finished weight, because the model does not subtract the metal removed when the band is engraved, filed, and polished. The bangle is solid 14K yellow gold through its full section, with no hollow core.

Every part of this bangle can be changed before production. The R shown is one client’s initial, and the following are set when you order.
