A standard eternity band sets each diamond with four individual prongs, which means four prong tips and a thin slice of metal between each stone. Look at the side of a standard eternity and the profile is flat with vertical lines between the diamonds. The U-prong on this wave diamond eternity ring replaces those with a single curved piece of metal that holds two adjacent stones at once. The gap disappears from the top view because the U cups sit below the diamond tables without any metal rising between them. The wave appears on the side profile because each U faces a different direction, alternating open-top and open-bottom produces a rising and falling rhythm around the full band.

Why Alternating the U Direction Produces the Wave

If all the U-prongs faced the same direction, the side profile would be a scalloped row on one edge and a flat base on the other. The wave comes from alternation: the first U opens upward, the second opens downward, the third opens upward again, and so on around all 30 stone positions. Because each U holds the adjacent stone at its opposite pole, the alternating cups pull the diamond line up and down in a rhythm that is a direct structural consequence of the setting geometry, not a separately carved profile.

The 2 mm width was chosen specifically for this stone count and U-prong size. A 1.5 mm width would narrow the U cups enough to lose structural grip; a 2.5 mm width would broaden the gaps between waves and soften the profile effect. At 2 mm, the wave reads cleanly while the overall band stays slim. Because this is a full eternity construction, ring size is confirmed before setting begins, resizing is not possible after the stones are placed.
