What Is a Bar Bracelet?

A bar is the quietest way to put a line of diamonds on a wrist. There is no repeated motif, no station spacing to line up, just one horizontal run that reads as a single stroke under a shirt cuff. Why a Bar Instead of a Line of Stones?

A tennis or station bracelet flexes at every link, so it rolls around the wrist and half the stones end up underneath. A rigid bar can only sit one way. The chain pulls from both ends and the bar bridges the top of the wrist, which keeps the pave facing up through the day without any adjusting. At 1.5 mm the bar is narrow enough to read as a line rather than a plate.

The bar is curved along its length rather than cut straight, so it follows the top of the wrist instead of standing off it at the ends. The chain is a fine elongated cable, deliberately lighter than the bar so the eye goes to the stones and not the links. The lobster clasp sits on an extender chain, which is what lets one bracelet fit a range of wrists and makes it easy to layer against a second chain.

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The bar, the chain, and the clasp are solid 14K gold, shown here in white and in yellow. The 30 stones are round lab grown diamonds totalling 1/20 carat, which puts each one well under a millimetre across. Stones at that size are melee, so the piece is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by a report on any individual stone.

• ◆ All 30 seats are cut into the solid bar and the beads raised from that same metal, so nothing is soldered on top and the surface stays a continuous line
• ◆ The chain is attached to a closed loop at each end of the bar, which is what stops the bar rotating face down between the links
• ◆ The lobster clasp is engraved with the Redora mark, and the extender is soldered rather than jump ringed so it cannot pull open under load
