A huggie is a hoop small enough to sit against the lobe rather than swing from it. Adding a drop gives back the movement a plain huggie gives up, without the length of a real drop earring. Within our earrings range, this is the everyday pair, light enough to leave in and small enough to wear under a phone or a pillow.

Why Does the Drop Hang From a Ring?

The diamond drop is not soldered to the hoop. It hangs on its own small ring, which means it pivots freely and settles with the stone facing forward however the hoop happens to sit. A drop fixed directly to the hoop would follow the hoop’s angle instead, and on a huggie that angle changes every time the earring is put in. The ring is what keeps the diamond pointing the right way without any adjusting.

The pave row is set into the outer face of the hoop only. The inside stays smooth, which matters on a huggie because that surface is in contact with the lobe all day. At 12.21 mm across the hoop is small enough to close snugly, and the whole earring stands 18.71 mm tall with the drop hanging. It closes on a hinge with a latch post rather than a butterfly back, so there is nothing to lose.

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The hoops, the drops, and the hinges are solid 14K yellow gold, the same alloy throughout. Not plated, not vermeil, not gold filled, which matters on an earring meant to be left in through showers and sleep. The 26 stones are lab grown diamonds totalling 1/4 carat, so every one is melee and the pair is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by a report on any single stone.
