What Are Baguette Cluster Studs?

These baguette diamond stud earrings hold three baguette cut lab grown diamonds per ear, each one bar set at a different angle so the three form a small pinwheel rather than a row. 5/8 carat across the pair, the cluster measures 10.40 mm by 8.80 mm and sits on a push back post.

Baguettes are usually lined up. Setting three of them at angles instead gives a stud that changes shape as the head turns, without adding height or weight. Within our earrings range, this is the geometric pair, the one to wear when a round solitaire would read as too formal.

Design Details

Why Are the Ends of Each Setting Left Open?

A baguette is a long rectangle with a flat table and step cut facets running its length. Held in a full bezel it loses light through both ends and goes flat. Here each stone is caught only along its two long edges by a rail of gold, and both short ends stay open, so light runs straight through the length of the stone. That is what keeps a step cut bright at this size.

The three settings sit on one flat plate rather than three separate heads, and their angles are fixed in the metal before any stone goes in. One baguette runs horizontally at the top, one vertically below it, and the third crosses on a diagonal, with the gaps between them cut away so the cluster reads as three floating bars. The plate itself is kept low, which is what makes a 10.40 mm stud wearable on a working day.

Materials & Craft

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The plates, the rails, and the posts are solid 14K gold, shown here in white and yellow. The six stones are lab grown diamonds, baguette cut, 5/8 carat across the pair. Stones of this size are set as accent stones rather than graded individually, so the pair is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by a report on each stone.

  • ◆ Baguettes are matched in pairs across the two earrings, so the horizontal stone on the left ear is cut to the same length as the horizontal stone on the right
  • ◆ Each rail is cut to the exact length of the stone it holds, since a step cut shows any gap between metal and girdle as a dark line down the side
  • ◆ The three settings are angled and joined to the plate before setting begins, so the geometry is fixed by the metal rather than by the setter judging it by eye
  • ◆ The open ends are filed and polished after setting, because a rough edge at the mouth of a rail is what snags on a jumper

What Can Be Specified Before Production?

These studs are built to order. The configuration shown is a starting point, not a fixed SKU. The following options can be specified before production starts.

  • ◆ Carat weight: 5/8 ct across the pair as shown, with lighter and heavier baguettes set into rails scaled to match
  • ◆ Stone count: three per ear as shown, with two or four set to the same scatter
  • ◆ Layout: the angled arrangement as shown, or three baguettes lined up straight
  • ◆ Gold karat: 14K as shown, or 18K
  • ◆ Gold color: white as shown, with yellow also shown here and rose on request
  • ◆ White gold finish: rhodium plated over solid white gold; the plating wears gradually with friction, fastest on rings, and can be re-plated
  • ◆ Closure: push back as shown, with a screw back for heavier carat weights
  • ◆ Engraving: initials or a date cut into the back of the plate, in the font you choose, included at no charge
  • ◆ Stone type: lab grown diamond as standard, with natural diamond available on request
  • ◆ Diamond grade: F color and VS clarity at minimum as our lab grown standard; D color and VVS clarity available on request
