The Piece

Your Birth Month at the Center of a Fine Diamond Halo

This is a birthstone pendant necklace made in solid 18K yellow gold, with a 4 mm round center stone framed by a halo of 20 round lab diamonds set in fine pavé. Eleven birthstones are offered for the center: amethyst, aquamarine, alexandrite, created sapphire, London blue topaz, citrine, created emerald, garnet, peridot, tourmaline, and the created ruby shown here. The center stone sits in a low bezel cup, raised slightly above the halo so the color of the stone reads cleanly against the gold and the surrounding diamond pavé reflects light back across its facets. Total halo carat weight is 1/6 ct, distributed evenly around the frame so the sparkle reads as one continuous ring rather than concentrated at the top.

Design Details

The Bezel-Set Center Stone and the Pavé Diamond Halo

The defining structural choice in this pendant is the bezel-set center stone surrounded by a prong-set diamond halo rather than a single prong setting on its own. The bezel cup wraps the girdle of the center stone in a thin gold rim, holding it from all sides without prongs lifting above the table of the gemstone. This matters specifically for daily wear: bezels do not catch on knit fabrics or hair, they protect the edges of softer gemstones (amethyst, peridot, citrine) from impact, and they create a clean round silhouette that lets the halo do the visual work of catching light.

The halo itself sits as a separate ring of fine pavé around the bezel, with each diamond held by its own micro prong cut from the gold contour. This two-layer construction (bezel center, prong halo) gives the pendant visible dimension when light hits it, rather than reading as a flat disc. The chain is a fine cable construction at standard width, sized to keep the pendant as the visual focal point. The pendant attaches at two points along the top of the halo rather than a single jump ring, which keeps the pendant sitting flat and level against the collarbone instead of rotating to its side through the day.

Materials & Craft

Solid 18K Yellow Gold, Lab Diamond Halo, and a Lab-Created Center Stone

The pendant, chain, and clasp are all produced in solid 18K yellow gold. Not plated, not vermeil, not gold-filled. 18K yellow gold has the warm, saturated tone that frames colored gemstones at their truest hue, and at this karat the alloy stands up to skin contact and continuous wear better than 9K or 10K alternatives. The 20 halo stones are lab grown diamonds, IGI certified at the diamond level and matched in size and color across the full halo. The center stone is lab-created (created ruby in the configuration shown), grown to the same chemical and optical properties as its natural counterpart while remaining responsibly sourced and consistent in color.

  • The bezel cup is hand-fitted to each individual center stone after the casting, ensuring the gold meets the gemstone girdle cleanly with no visible gap
  • Halo prongs are cut from the contour itself rather than soldered on, which keeps every diamond locked into the pavé without weak solder points
  • Diamond matching is completed at the bench: 20 stones are color-graded and size-matched before setting, not pulled from a generic batch
  • Final inspection covers bezel security, halo prong tension, chain attachment points, and clasp engagement before the necklace leaves our manufacturing facility
