The Piece

Six Petals That Lift Slightly at the Tips, and Why That Changes the Stone

The setting on this necklace looks like a flower at first glance and reads as a structural decision on second look. Six gold petals radiate from a central round brilliant diamond, each petal tip lifts slightly upward rather than sitting flat against the crown of the stone. The lift is the design’s quiet move: it creates a millimeter of clearance between metal and crown, which lets light enter the diamond from its side facets instead of being blocked by the setting. The diamond reads as a bloom of brightness on the skin, not as a stone embedded in metal. This vintage floral diamond solitaire necklace is built around that one structural choice.

At 50 cm, the pendant sits at the collarbone rather than higher up at the throat, which is the right position for a single-stone piece intended to read as deliberate against an open neckline rather than as a hidden charm. Within our diamond necklaces collection, this is the design that leans into vintage craft detail while keeping the silhouette light enough for daily wear.

Design Details

Why the Petals Curve Up, Why the Prongs Hide in the Petal Junctions, Why the Chain Is Paperclip

The petals do three things at once. They form the visual flower outline. They lift slightly at the tips to clear the stone’s crown, which is the light-performance move described above. They also provide the structural points where the six prongs are integrated, the prongs sit at the junctions between adjacent petals rather than rising independently above the stone. This hides the prong tips inside the floral form, from the front the setting reads as a flower without obvious claws. Only at close range does the prong structure become visible.

The paperclip chain was chosen against the more common cable or box chain because alternating long bar and short rectangular links give the chain a visible rhythm without adding decorative noise. A cable chain at this length would read as too neutral against the floral pendant, an inflated curb or rope chain would compete with it. The paperclip sits between, it has presence on its own but stays in conversation with the pendant rather than fighting it. The links are smooth, not textured, so attention stays on the floral setting where it should.

Materials & Craft

18K Gold Cast for Petal Shape Definition and Stone Selected for Round Brilliant Performance

The body of this necklace is 18K solid gold (Au750), containing 75 percent pure gold by weight. Casting the petal shape with crisp edges requires enough wall thickness that the form does not soften during polishing, the 18K alloy holds petal definition where a thinner 14K cast would round off at the edges. The center stone is a round brilliant lab grown diamond, VS clarity and E color, and is evaluated face-up at the bench before it enters the setting, the floral setting’s whole logic depends on the stone performing optically (a poorly cut round buried in metal would defeat the purpose of the lifted petals). The 50 cm paperclip chain is assembled link-by-link with each connector solder-closed individually, and the completed chain is tumble-polished and inspected for even link spacing before pendant assembly.

  • 18K gold (Au750) throughout pendant and chain, cast with enough wall thickness to hold petal definition
  • Center stone evaluated face-up at the bench before placement in the floral setting
  • Six prongs hand-set and rolled, prong tips polished smooth to prevent snagging on fabric
  • Paperclip chain assembled link-by-link with each connector individually solder-closed
  • Stones available as lab grown diamonds (default, CVD-grown, IGI certified) or natural diamonds at the same grade

Made to Order

Chain Length, Gold Color, Carat Weight, and the Two-Tone Petal Option

This necklace is built to order. The standard configuration is 18K gold with a roughly 1 ct round brilliant on a 50 cm paperclip chain, but the two-tone petal option is the design’s most distinctive customization and worth considering before defaulting to a single metal color.

  • Gold karat: 14K (Au585) or 18K (Au750), 14K shifts rose and yellow versions to slightly lighter tones
  • Gold color: rose, yellow, or white, all 18K options receive the same petal definition
  • Two-tone setting: the petal tips can be produced in a contrasting metal color from the petal base (e.g. rose gold base with white gold petal tips), the floral form becomes more pronounced when worn against the skin
  • Chain length: 50 cm as standard (collarbone position), shorter (42 cm or 45 cm) sits closer to the throat, longer (55 cm or 60 cm) lengthens the drop
  • Carat weight: approximately 1 ct as standard, smaller or larger round brilliants can be sourced and will scale the petal width proportionally
  • Stone type: lab grown diamond as standard, with natural diamond available on request

Next Step

The two decisions that shape this necklace most are the chain length (which controls where the pendant sits on the body) and whether you want a single-tone setting or the two-tone petal contrast. Send those with your preferred gold karat and color, your diamond type (lab or natural), and any preference on center stone size. If you have a vintage reference image for the petal styling, send that too, the production team can match floral patterns within the six-petal framework.
