How Does the Four Prong Basket Sit on the Chain?

The chain runs straight into the setting. The two upper prongs of the basket are built as the chain connection, so there is no bail and no jump ring between the diamond and the links. That fixes the stone at the center of the chain and keeps the table facing forward, instead of letting a pendant swing loose and turn edge-on through the day.

The basket itself is the reason the piece wears flat. At 5.05 mm width by height in the configuration shown, it holds the girdle low and lets the pavilion drop into the open frame rather than lifting the stone off the skin. Prong tips are slender claw points rather than broad caps, so the coverage over the crown stays minimal and light reaches the stone from the sides.
