It suits someone who wants diamonds on an ordinary day rather than for occasions, and who layers rather than wears one piece alone. Within our diamond necklaces range, this is the one built to sit flat under a collar and still read as five separate stones.

Design Details

Why Is the Bar Curved Rather Than Straight?

A straight bar of five stones has to sit on a curve of skin, so the two ends lift away from the body while the centre presses in. This bar is built on an arc matched to the line just below the collarbone, which is why the whole row touches at once and why it stays face up instead of rolling.

The prongs are shared. Four prongs hold the outer ends, and a single prong sits between each adjacent pair, which halves the metal across the front compared with five separate four prong heads. At 3.3 mm tall the piece then reads as one line of light rather than five settings joined together. The chain attaches at both ends of the bar rather than at a single bail, which is the other reason it does not swing round.

Materials & Craft

What Metal and Diamonds Are Used?

The bar, the prongs, and the chain are all solid 14K gold, shown here in white, yellow, and rose. The five stones are lab grown diamonds, round brilliant cut, 5/8 carat in total, which puts each one near 3 mm across. At that size a diamond is set as an accent stone rather than graded on its own, so the necklace is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by a report on each stone.

  • ◆ The five stones are matched for size, colour, and cut before any of them is set, because one stone out of step is obvious in a straight row
  • ◆ Each seat is cut individually into the bar so the girdles line up at one height and the tables sit on a single plane
  • ◆ The shared prongs are trimmed after setting so no prong stands higher than the crown of the stone it holds, which is what keeps the bar from catching on knitwear
  • ◆ The chain is soldered to a loop at each end of the bar rather than passed through a drilled hole, so the bar cannot slide or tip along the chain

What Can Be Specified Before Production?

This necklace is built to order. The configuration shown is a starting point, not a fixed SKU. The following options can be specified before production starts.

  • ◆ Chain length: 18 inch as shown, with 16 inch and 20 inch cut to the same gauge
  • ◆ Carat weight: 5/8 ct across five stones as shown, with lighter and heavier stones set into a bar scaled to match
  • ◆ Stone count: five as shown, with three or seven set on the same curve
  • ◆ Gold karat: 14K as shown, or 18K
  • ◆ Gold color: white as shown, with yellow and rose both shown here
  • ◆ White gold finish: rhodium plated over solid white gold; the plating wears gradually with friction, fastest on rings, and can be re-plated
  • ◆ Clasp: lobster as shown, with a spring ring for a lighter finish
  • ◆ Engraving: initials, a date, or a short phrase cut into the back of the bar, in the font you choose, included at no charge. A 3.3 mm bar takes only a few characters
  • ◆ Stone type: lab grown diamond as standard, with natural diamond available on request
  • ◆ Diamond grade: F color and VS clarity at minimum, with Excellent cut on the round stones, as our lab grown standard; D color and VVS clarity available on request
