The colour is the point. A marquise on its own reads as a thin sliver at pendant scale, but a solid frame around it gives the outline a shape that carries at conversation distance. Within our diamond necklaces range, this is the piece that gets its presence from a colour block rather than from added carat weight.

Why a Ceramic Frame Instead of a Diamond Halo?

A halo would surround the marquise with pavé and add carat weight, cost, and a second set of prongs to catch on clothing. The ceramic frame does the same job differently: one solid piece of colour, polished smooth, with nothing standing proud of the surface. Ceramic holds its colour and takes a polish that fired enamel cannot match at an edge, which matters on a shape with two sharp points.

The pendant is built in layers. Ceramic on the face, a 14K gold plate behind it, and the marquise held on prongs between them. That back plate is not solid: it is pierced with an open marquise the size of the stone, so light passes through the pavilion instead of dying against metal. The bail is set with four small round diamonds and hangs the pendant on its own link, so the face turns to sit flat rather than locking at an angle.

What Materials Are Used?

The mounts and the chain are solid 14K gold, shown here in white, yellow, and rose. The frame is honeydew ceramic, a pale mint that reads almost white in daylight and turns green under warm light. The five stones are lab grown diamonds, 1 carat in total, with the marquise carrying almost all of that weight and four small rounds along the bail. Those bail stones are accents, so the piece is covered by a test certificate on the gold and the diamonds rather than by a report on every stone.

• ◆ The ceramic is cut and polished as one marquise piece and then seated against a thin gold rim, so no seam line runs through the colour
• ◆ The marquise is capped by prongs at both points, which is the only part of the stone that chips, and left open along the belly so the outline stays clean
• ◆ The back plate is pierced with a matching marquise opening, cut after the frame is fitted so the two outlines line up when the pendant is turned
• ◆ The bail is bead set in a single row and soldered closed, so a 1 carat pendant is not hanging from an open jump ring
