How Is the Face of Jesus Laid Out on the Pendant?

The crown of thorns runs across the top as twisted branches lined with rows of small beads, and several long bright cut facets are set into it at different angles, so the crown flashes as the pendant turns. Below it the face sits in raised relief: brow, eyes, nose, and the mouth framed by a beard, with the skin left smooth.

The hair falls to the shoulders on both sides in a fine stippled texture, with bright cut strands running down through it, and the bust ends in a straight edge at the bottom. The contrast is the point of the design: matte skin, grainy hair and beard, and mirror bright cuts, so the face reads clearly even at 32 mm.

What Gold Is It Made In, and Why Does It Weigh 2.03 g?

The pendant shown is solid 10K yellow gold, which is 41.7% pure gold, stamped 10K on the bail. It is built with an open, hollow back: the reverse follows the shape of the front relief inside a raised rim and carries a cross hatched texture, which is why a 32 mm pendant weighs 2.03 g. A closed flat back can be made instead, which adds gold weight.
